Our History

1947 – 48 –

The Hindusthan Group established its first Points & Crossings plant at Tiljala, West Bengal under Hindusthan Engineering Industries Ltd (HEIL).

1959 – 60 –

Hindusthan Vidyut Products Ltd (HVPL) was incorporated in the name of The Indian Aluminium Cables Ltd which started production of AAC/ACSR Conductors at its works at Ghaziabad U.P.) and Faridabad (Haryana).

1982 – 83 – HEIL –

Introduced Switch Expansion Joints for Indian Railways.


Merged a conductor and transformer manufacturing company namely Gwalior Cables & Conductors Ltd, Gwalior (M.P.) w.e.f. 1st April, 1982.
A power cable manufacturing unit was installed by the company at Faridabad and it also became the first company in India to import 152 mm Extruder from "Mallifer Finland".

1984 – 85 – HEIL –

Foundry commenced operations at Bamunari, near Kolkata in West Bengal.
This was the first company in India to manufacture CMS crossings indigenously.
First Indian foundry to receive certification from Association of American Rail Roads in terms of AARM1003 & AARM210 and supply Side Frames, Bolsters and Couplers to North America.

1987 – 88 –

As a part of our CSR initiative, the group started an educational institution (only for ladies) at Lakshmangarh in Rajasthan. Now a full fledged university, it awards degrees upto PhD to our meritorious students from across the country.

1989 – 90 – HEIL –

Diversified into manufacture of alloy steel components viz., bogies, couplers, draft gears etc. & also bagged the biggest export order for Side Frame, Bolster, Coupler & Axle Boxes from USSR. Road shows were undertaken in New York, London, Paris & Tokyo for Global Fund Mobilisation.

1990 – 91 – HVPL – Developed the AACSR Conductor.

1991 – 92 – HEIL –

Became the First Indian company to –
Receive order for Turnouts from Africa.
Supply Anode Yoke all over the world.
Export Fishing Crawler Shoes to Iceland.
Receive order for Turnouts from Malaysian Railway.

1995 – 96 – HEIL – Introduced of Thick Web Switches with Indian Railways.

1998 – 99 – HEIL –

Introduced Low Height Container Flat wagons under World Bank project for Indian Railways. It became the First Indian company to – Export Side Frames and Bolsters to Australia & South Korea. Export CMS Crossings to Europe Manufacture Slackless Drawbars for Low Height Container Flat wagons.

2000 – 01 – HVPL –

Took over a unit manufacturing all type of insulators with the name of ‘Insulators & Electricals Company’, Mandideep, Distt. Raisen (M.P.) as a going concern w.e.f. 1st April, 2000.

2001 – 02 – HEIL – Became the First Indian company to produce Obtuse Crossings.

2003 – 04 – HVPL –

Expanded its Cable division at Faridabad by installation of CCV line to manufacture HT XLPE Power Cables.

2005 – 06 – HVPL –

Installed shaft less stranding (20+24+32) machine running at 250 rpm from "BAGGAR Denmark" and still remains the only company in India to have this machine.
Imported the CDCC line from "Nokia Mallifer" with reverse catenary feature, which ensures precise control of insulated core centering in curing tube. We are the only company to have this technology.

2010 – 11 – HVPL –

Executed Largest single order of 11 KV 3C x 400 Sq mm of 418 Km from BESCOM, Bangalore.

2012 – 13 – HVPL –

Successfully commenced production at its new conductor plant setup at Guwahati Commissioned its First Solar plant with parabolic mirrors for process heating.


Completed a Technical Tie – Up with European company for manufacture of Weldable CMS Crossing. Diversified into manufacture of EMU coaches & Cast Steel Bogie Frame for locomotives. Developed prototype 25 ton Axle Load Bogie & WD 70 Coupler.
